Homework

Your child has homework each night.  It is a simple worksheet designed to reinforce what they have been learning all year.   Homework is Monday through Thursday.  Your child will continue with his/her spelling homework and reading for 20 minutes every night.

Please help your children with their homework......by providing them with a quiet spot with no distractions if at all possible.......listening to them read aloud and asking questions to check comprehension.  Each child has been given a level range of books to choose from, however many children just grab the nearest book!
Thank you for your support.

Recipe for Gak

I would like to thank the parents that volunteered their time and helped make this trip complete success.  I also thank the parents that sat this trip out I promise I will call on you if we go on another field trip.

Our trip to the Museum was "awesome" .  The children enjoyed the demonstration on Solids Liquids and Gases.  Unfortunately we did not have much time to explore Science Centre.  The Planetarium was " so cool"!!

Warning this recipe is designed for class, as you can see by the amount of solution made and the amount of the solution that was used.

Ingredients:
plastic cup
Popsicle sticks
Elmer's Glue (it must be Elmer's other glues will not work)
Borax  (laundry detergent)
food colouring
warm and room temperature water
2 containers for the solutions
Ziplock bag for storage
newspaper or plastic tablecloth for the mess

Solution A
2 cups Elmer's glue
2 cups of water.

Solution B
2 tablespoons of Borax
2 cups warm water

In a plastic cup, mix 2 tablespoons of of Solution A (glue) with a few drops of food colouring for effect add 2 teaspoons of the Solution B (Borax) Stir with a Popsicle or stir stick.  The result should be a coloured goo that can be taken out of the cup and stretched and squeezed.

Gak keeps best in a closed baggie in the fridge.

Very Proud

I would like to thank all the families and students of 2MK for bringing in 107kg of food for Winnipeg Harvest.

While we did come in third I think the class diserves a pizza party too!!!
I will be sending home a permission slip for you to sign and return to school by Wednesday, December 16

Winter Concert

Winter concert is just around the corner!  We need empty toilet paper tubes, paper towel rolls will work too!

While I am asking....I was wondering if you have baby food jars?  Empty baby food jars of all sizes can be used for so many things.

Let's Work Together

5 Simple Ways to Help Your Child:
1. Check the agenda every day.
2. Help them keep track of things they bring home.
3. Listen to your child read every day (the more children read the easier it becomes)
4. Help your child with his/her homework (but don't do it for them!!)
5. If possible find a quiet space for your child to work.

The most important...care about his/her education.  If you think school and education are important so will your child.

Clipart

Spelling homework: when your children have finished their homework it is important that they write their spelling words in their agenda. This will allow them to hand in their homework early and still has the words to study the rest of the week. Thank you for your support.

Tomorrow is your child's first spelling test.

Starting November 2nd your child will be bringing a home reading book and a reading log home every day. Please take 20 minutes to sit with your child and let him/her read to you, fill out the log and send it back to school the next day.
As always please feel free to contact me if you have any questions or concerns. You can e-mail   smackinnon@pembinatrail.ca   or a note in your child's agenda
